    The Team

Woven Planet’s Software Platform Team is building Arene, a world-class software development platform that creates and supports a new community of vehicle app developers. Arene is transformative, for Toyota and the world, and will provide the pipeline, tools, and libraries app developers need to deliver new and innovative software to market — quickly and safely. Specifically, the Arene UX Team has a “seat at the table” alongside its product and engineering partners, and together they will shape the future of automotive software.

    The Role

We are looking for a user researcher who can navigate ambiguity, create a detailed map of our users' problems, and turn research into valuable insights to guide innovation and inform the development of the Arene suite of products. Someone who can understand and analyze user needs, requirements and technical constraints. Someone who is also comfortable engaging developers in thoughtful conversation, who can understand their patterns and has experience collaborating effectively with them, while partnering with designers and product managers, advocating for user centered practices across the organization. Is that you?

The fact is: the automotive world is complex and full of moving parts (hah!), with technology evolving rapidly even as you read this. That’s why we need team members who are capable of analyzing the issues we are tackling, quickly grasp the intricacies of the processes, foresee the impact of UX insights on products no one has built before, and improve existing customer experiences that will become the future of mobility software — for everyone. It’s a big deal.

    The Responsibilities

As a UX Researcher at Woven Planet, you will be responsible for guiding research in a technically sophisticated environment, for a growing UX team that is setting the standards for vehicle app development. You’ll be impacting decisions that directly steer (see what we did there?) the product and its roadmap. Specifically:

・Identify user research opportunities and collaborate with product managers to execute them

・Support product designers in evaluative research and the creation of strategic deliverables

・Work with stakeholders to define valuable metrics and plan how to measure them regularly

・Lead strategic user research projects that encompass the entire product suite

・Advocate for users needs and UX processes in the organization by delivering compelling insights inside and outside of the Arene team

Day-to-day, you will have the chance to reshape the future of software at Toyota and design its legacy for decades to come. By working alongside designers, user researchers, product managers, and engineers, and collaborating with Toyota teams located all over the globe, you’ll be instrumental to Toyota’s transition from a “traditional” car manufacturer into a mobility, software-first company.

    The Requirements

    • 5+ years of experience with both quantitative and qualitative research methods at all stages - study plan, recruiting, moderation, analysis, reporting
    • a portfolio that highlights and demonstrates this experience
    • excellent planning, communication and presentation skills
    • spoken and written English and Japanese fluency

    The Nice-to-haves

    • experience improving and scaling research practices across an organization
    • experience integrating research in cross-functional Agile teams
    • experience with developer tools
    • experience in the automotive industry

If you are currently located outside of Japan, don't worry, we'll set an interview over Google Hangout Meet or Skype.
