    Job Description :

    Overview

We’re looking for a tactical developer who builds tools and uses those tools to make time sensitive proposals and decisions in a fast-paced, front-office environment. You will work in SIG’s Hong Kong or Sydney office as part of Heights Capital Management Asia, a specialized team focused on managing the firm’s capital in direct investments in public companies in Asia Pacific.

In this role, you will –

    • Learn about decision science, game theory, and capital markets.
    • Understand the end-to-end trade flow, operations, and reporting processes relevant to the team’s investment and trading strategies in Asia Pacific.
    • Spot time-sensitive opportunities and errors and make suggestions to traders and investment managers by using the applications, scripts, and reports you will develop and/or improve yourself.
    • Learn how to send orders and talk to the street from traders and investment managers. Book fills, resolve erroneous and broken trades, and problem solve and systematize to stop recurrences. Assist in new account creation and the KYC process.
    • Ensure timely settlement and filings of new large direct investments by coordinating with numerous third parties. Organize and store all essential deal documents.
    • Perform and automate daily morning system checks, continuously monitor production systems, run, review for accuracy, and disseminate daily reports. Spot real time errors and opportunities, perform time-critical troubleshooting and problem solving.
    • Work with investment managers on a wide variety of tactical quantitative research projects.

    What We're Looking For

    • Recent hands-on experience developing software applications and/or services. Fluency in C#, VB/A, SQL, Access, and Excel is expected. Exposure to R/Python and Bloomberg API would be beneficial.
    • Understanding of equities and equity derivatives, basics of valuation and greeks, trade life cycle and relevant market data.
    • Ambitious, self-motivated, not afraid to make suggestions without needing to be asked, strong organizational skills, hyper-attentive to detail, with a strong desire to identify and drive operational and technical improvements within the Heights/SIG environment.
    • Academic background in computer science, or a related quantitative subject. (If you have equivalent technical experience instead, that’ll work too!)
    • Exceptional communication skills, both in the ability to understand others and to make yourself clearly understood. Experience reading company filings and transactional legal documents in both English and either Mandarin Chinese or Japanese would be beneficial.
    • Demonstrated interest in strategic/competitive games, capital markets, and continually improving your decision-making skills.
    • Residing in or willing to relocate to Hong Kong or Sydney.

As part of the onboarding process, the successful candidate will visit the global headquarters (US) for a short duration to be introduced to the proprietary systems, resources, and global operations processes. After returning to Hong Kong, the candidate will sync up daily with the US team in addition to regional investment managers, analysts, and counselors to maintain smooth global operations.
