Oyen is a direct-to-consumer (D2C) digital insurance platform that provides insurance protection to customers in Malaysia. With our first pet insurance product to market, we work with our vet partners to offer personalized pet healthcare protection, wellness, and benefits to pet owners.

Our early investors include Iterative, Hustle Fund, former leaders, and employees of silicon valley/ global tech companies such as Airbnb, Facebook, and Rocket Internet (Zalora, Easytaxi). About the role

As our first full-stack engineer, you'll take ownership across the stack and be responsible for the entire customer journey from where we store data to our server application logic, to our front end UI. You’ll be part of the founding engineer team to build and ship key features.

Your responsibilities and what you’ll build

• Work as part of the Engineering Team in enhancing, optimising and scaling our web application
• Enhancing current user onboarding, renewals, cancellations, claims journeys
• Creating a robust pricing engine based on rules and filters
• Building Claims Management features to increase efficiency
• Building MVPs for new product verticals and continuously iterate and enhance them based on user feedback
• Payment gateway integration and maintenance
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product manager, engineers and designers to develop and ship awesome features
• Write efficient, modular, and reusable libraries and abstractions
• Design and build internal tooling to improve development efficiency
• Find and solve performance issues
• Participate in code reviews
• Work alongside other engineers on the team to elevate technology and consistently apply best practices

Skills and Requirements

• Minimum of 3-5 years of full-time development experience
• Full-stack engineering experience in Javascript (TypeScript preferred), Python/Django, or Ruby/Rails
• Past experience in shipping full-stack and highly scalable web application in production
• Familiar with commonly used frameworks and their trade-offs
• Ability to design clean APIs and understanding of performance issues
• Expert in SQL, database design, and familiarity with MySQL / PostgreSQL
• Experienced with software engineering best practices – design patterns, code reviews, unit and integration testing, etc.
• Understanding of software security, common attacks and defences
• Ability to communicate technical specifications both verbal and written
• You have experience with DevOps, having managed your own servers, setting up CI / CD, and familiar with at least one cloud provider (AWS / GCP / Azure)
• Nice to have: Past experience building products within the insurance/fintech industry and basic understanding or interest in data science
