ALL-INCLUSIVE KNOW-HOW OF CISA RENEWAL

Renewal of certification can be a tiresome process but if you would like to enjoy the benefits it gives you need to neglect the tedious nature of this renewal. Certified Information System Auditor, more commonly known as CISA, is a certification provided by ISACA to monitor and protect the security system of an organization.

Just like other certifications, CISA also follows a systematic guideline for the renewal of the certification issued by ISACA.

Come along to get an insight into the ways prescribed by Isaca for CISA renewal.

CISA CPE REQUIREMENTS

To begin this journey of renewal, initially one must know the prerequisites needed for the process of renewal.

There are 3 crucial CPE requirements for CISA renewal which one must follow. These are listed below :

  1. CISA CPE credits per year - one must maintain a record of 20 CISA CPE credits in a year to be eligible for the renewal process. Once you collect 20 CPE credits you need to sustain that for a minimum period of 3 years in a row.
  2. CISA CPE credits for a time span of 3 years - if you are interested in renewing your CISA certification then you should keep in mind that you are entitled to earn a sum total of 120 CPE credits in a time period of 3 consecutive years; then only you can appeal for a renewal process. This is a mandatory step and is quite indispensable.
  3. Payment of annual maintenance charges-  ISACA charges annual maintenance fees for the perpetuation of the certification. You cannot breach this because if done then there is no going back which will ultimately terminate the process of renewal. Your login access in the Submission system will be denied and your CISA CPE reporting will be terminated at once.

To maintain this, you need to make a payment of $45 (for members of ISACA) and $85( for non-members) yearly.

That is all for maintenance, now let us have a look towards How to earn CPE CREDITS?

To earn CPE credits one must follow the resources which can offer CPE credits to you for your CISA renewal. The resources are :

  1. CPE TRAINING- Attendance in a security course, either ISACA recognized or NON-ISACA recognized will help you in getting CPE credits for renewal. Once your training is over, you will become eligible for CPE credits collection. ISACA counts 1 hour of training as 1 CPE credit. So there is a scope of collecting 120 CPE credits this way.
  2. Self-paced CISA CPE Course-you can also opt for the CISA CPE course delivered in a self-paced manner which will allow you to collect CISA CPE credits for renewal. It is the most sought after way for CPE collection owing to the fact that it is cost-effective and appropriate.
  3. Attending Events or Presentations- you can obtain a maximum of 10 CPE credits per year or a total of 30 CPE credits in 3 years’ time, by attending events or presentations organized by companies to showcase their offerings regarding Information security products or solutions.
  4. Teach and Earn- ISACA offers a high amount of points to individuals who want to invest their time in educating others regarding the Information security systems. If someone deleted their one hour in rendering his/her knowledge to others then he/she qualifies for 5 CPE credits per hour spent in teaching. Sounds good. Right?
  5. Publishing- You can contribute towards publishing books, magazines and writing blogs about Information security to earn CPE credits.
  6. Volunteering- you could also participate in several other activities organized by ISACA to gain credits for renewal. It is advisable to keep in constant touch with the ISACA’S official website to know more about any upcoming events or programs.

CISA CPE REPORTING

After successfully earning CPE credits you need to generate an appeal for submission; you must report your CPE credits on the ISACA’S website to start your renewal process. You must remember that you should apply for a renewal before the date of expiration because if your certification expires then there is limited scope for renewal.

AUDIT

There is a slight chance that your application for renewal might end up with the CISA CPE AUDIT. If this is the case then you will be asked to present the proof of your CPE credits that you have earned and have submitted for renewal.

Documented proof regarding the CPE activity must be submitted for evaluation and they will also check whether your chosen activity was in accordance with the ICASE CPE POLICY.

For instance, if you have taken the training then you can show your enrollment papers, cheques, etc. providing these shreds of evidence will ensure smooth evaluation of your papers and will grant you the renewal.
