11-May-2021

In this article, we will be discussing about the various Six Sigma Certifications that exist.

1. White belt -

A professional who has not taken any certification training whatsoever is known as a six sigma white belt. One thing which should be noted is that that is not the only qualification which is considered when labelling a professional as a white belt. There is one more qualification which can bring someone to the platform of being a white belt.

That qualification is that that professional should be a complete beginner to the six sigma methodology. This means that he should not have any prior knowledge of the six sigma methodology. He should not have been introduced to any of the core concepts and topics of the six sigma methodology.

He should not have read any books about the six sigma methodology, watched any videos on the internet about it, or attended any webinars or physical conferences related to it. To put it simply, he should be completely new to the six sigma methodology.

Even then he will not qualify as a six sigma white belt. These qualifications will only make him eligible to become a six sigma white belt. First he will have to approach a bona fide six sigma training institute and request them to grant him the formal credentials of being a six sigma white belt.

2. Yellow belt -

A six sigma yellow belt is at a higher level than a six sigma white belt. A six sigma yellow belt has a greater exposure to the six sigma methodology than a six sigma white belt, who basically does not have any exposure to the six sigma methodology. The various belt levels of the six sigma methodology are elaborated upon in the Lean Six Sigma green belt certification.

A six sigma yellow belt is a professional who knows and is familiar with some of the basic concepts and topics of the six sigma methodology. He has been taught some of the basic concepts and topics but has not yet entered into the higher realms of the six sigma methodology. Most of the advanced concepts and topics remain foreign and unfamiliar to him.

The six sigma yellow belts should not be taken lightly. One should not think that just because they only possess a rudimentary knowledge of six sigma they are not qualified to serve in a six sigma team. The fact of the matter is that the six sigma yellow belts are highly qualified professionals who can serve in a six sigma team in a very significant capacity.

Six sigma yellow belts are usually assigned to limited scope projects so that they may guide the other members of the six sigma team and other coworkers outside the six sigma team to the best of their knowledge. They can also assist the project managers of the project in leading, directing, and managing the project. The Lean Six Sigma green belt certification talks a little about the six sigma yellow belts.
