Will AI Replace Humans Entirely in the Future?

21-Jun-2023

Artificial Intelligence is becoming all the rage. It is evolving at a speed feared to outdo humans in performing numerous tasks. While AI interventions have enabled the world to automate almost every task, it has also seemingly created a scope for offloading jobs to machines. AI has brought in disruptive transformations across industries, changing how companies work, by automating and replacing humans with intelligent systems, resulting in human workers shifting towards lesser-paid jobs or becoming unemployed. This scenario has caused some to believe that the human workforce will become unrecognizable in the next two decades.

Will AI replace humans entirely in the future?

The question will AI replace human intelligence is an ongoing debate. However, given both Artificial Intelligent and Humans bring different abilities and strengths, AI will never replace humans. None of the two can take each other's place. Here in this article, let us explore the facts corroborating Why AI will never replace humans while equally delving into the importance of AI.

Elucidating the Importance of AI

A recent study indicates a prediction made by experts that in the current economic scenario where data is the driver of change and competition, exhaustive use of Artificial intelligence will add as much as USD 15.7 trillion by 2030 to the global economy. This instance itself reflects the role AI plays and its value in bringing global growth. The importance of AI lies in the way in which human lives generally have been made easier. AI is largely effective in automating tasks, providing accuracy and precision, thus becoming a critical tool in almost every industry starting from healthcare to financial sectors. The amount of data generated across platforms, both by machines and humans is outperforming human's ability to grasp, interpret, and make complex decisions based on that data. The fact that Artificial intelligence is the basis of all computer learning and breakthroughs is telling of the importance of AI in today's computerized and technologized era and is without a contest, the future of complex decision-making.

Why AI Will Never Replace Humans?

While it is clear that AI is crucial, many factors verify why AI will never replace humans. Let us examine some of the major rationales for it.

Absence of Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence is crucial in the workspace, without which dealing with clients would be impossible. While AI tries to simulate human intelligence, it cannot easily replicate emotional intelligence which requires layers of humane aspects, including empathy, a profound understanding of human experience, and connectivity. Humans are the sole agent that can offer these emotional aspects, and the role of appealing to clients and employers by businesses are only achievable through human agents. And that is why AI will never replace humans regardless of how efficiently and accurately it can perform or outdo humans in automating work.

Ability to Function Only with Data Input

AI functions only when it is given input or fed with an input such as data. It is only as good as the data it feeds on. In the event of the data that is fed to the machine does not include new sets or areas, or if the algorithm is not inclusive of unanticipated circumstances, the machine will be rendered useless. Manufacturing industries and Tech companies are often challenged by this issue of AI tools failing to adapt to any situation.

AI is only as useful and effective as the data it operates on. It is not independently efficient and cannot function outside of the box or come up with new methods or patterns of performing tasks and is only limited within the resources it relies on. Artificial Intelligence cannot easily replicate the  Human potential of reasoning, the power of analyzing, improvising, and extracting information. Hence, you could be certain that there is no possible scope for AI to replace human intelligence.

AI Works on Human Design

Artificial Intelligence is a product of Human intelligence, only it is growing exponentially. AI is a tool developed by Human Intelligence and would not exist without the lines of code that Humans write. Humans are the provider of the inputs that AI operates on and these machines are further put to use by humans for fulfilling their tasks. AI applications will continue to grow along with the growth of human intelligence and capacities. In order for AI to operate, humans have to design the machine processes,  develop the machines, and operate and maintain them. This is a straightforward reason why AI will never replace humans.

AI Requires Fact-Check

While several disruptive innovations powered by AI have come about like ChatGPT, Google Bard, and several other Chatbots, they are not without the limitations of accuracy. The products of these AI Chatbots often fail to exhibit accuracy and require fact-checking by human users. While AI has the potential for quick learning, it lacks reasoning capability and common sense. AI-powered machines are inefficient in regulating themselves and require external moderation.

AI is for enhancing Human Ability and not for Competition

While it is a worrying fact that AI applications are gaining traction and applicability in the workplace by replacing several jobs, it is only restricted to those that are repetitive and tedious. This does not limit the scope for expanding human capital. Workplaces will evolve and create roles towards technologically-oriented tasks. AI-based machines may be poised to replace millions of jobs, new jobs will be generated equally. As reported by the World Economic Forum, 85 million jobs will be replaced by AI-powered machines by 2025 however, 97 million jobs would also be generated.

The above reasons answer the much-debated concern "Will AI replace human intelligence". Machines powered by AI are quick and produce outputs or results that are more accurate and consistently rational. However, they are devoid of critical qualities like intuition, emotion, or cultural sensitivity that are only provided by humans. These qualities thus make humans more effective and powerful when it comes to competition between AI and humans.  Hence, we can conclude that while AI can massively automate and transform lives, and enhance the way manual work is carried out, ai has no power to replace humans and human intelligence

Owing to the fact that our world today is heavily reliant on technology, it would be almost impossible to dodge the importance of AI.  So the focus of humans should be on augmenting human capacities and integrating them around AI-Machines to gain optimal innovations, efficiency, and productivity.
