Step 1

Log on to the PMI website: 
www.PMI.org

Step 2

  1. Have an Account with PMI
  2. It is mandatory to have an account with PMI. If you don’t have an account, you can make one by Registering on the site.
  3. A Username and Password are necessary to create an account with PMI. 
  4. Click on ‘Register Now’ if you want to create a new account
  5. After all the details are added in Click on ‘Finish’
  6. Have the Credentials to log in?
  7. Use your Username and Password to Log In. 

Step 3

After Register and Log in

The user is taken to the Homepage on the PMI website. 

After reaching the Homepage, the user needs to click on the sub-tab - ‘Which PMI Certification is Right for You’ that is placed under the ‘Certification’ tab.  After this, the applicant needs to click the hyperlink ‘Project Management Professional (PMP)®.’ On the following page, the user needs to click on ‘Ready to Apply’ tab. After this is done, apply online for the PMP credential. Click on the link 'Apply for PMP Credential.' 

Step 3.1

  1. The applicant needs to enter his/her home and work address. Also, the applicant requires to enter details regarding the email and telephone number for exact precision and completeness. 
  2. The tabs ‘Add E-mail’ tab and ‘Add Phone number’ need to be pressed to add the appropriate and suitable information.
  3. After the details are filled in, the candidate can click on the ‘Save and Continue’ tab to proceed forward with the application. 
  4. You can move onto the next step after this. 
  5. Next, the applicant is asked to enter the educational details. The highest attained level of education is a must.  The applicable contact details for the college/university, or school must be duly filled and supplied. 
  6. Click on ‘Save and Continue’ tab.

Step 3.2

Let's look at the four parts of this step - 

  • In the first part, we can have an overview of the professional experience and educational requirements needed.
  • The second part aids the candidate in tracking the progression of filling the project management experience/education and keeping a right track over if the candidate has satisfied or exceeded the asked requirement of the project management education experience.
  • The third part looks at the projects that have been completed, the details of the organization, and the right details of the person who can be contacted in the organization.
  • The last, fourth part is about documenting the project management education.

* The first step has the requirements for professional experience and education that is in the best proximity provided by the PMI. After reading these requirements carefully, the aspirant can click on the 'Save and Continue' tab to move forward with the filling of the PMP application.

* The second step is about looking at the overall project management experience that the candidate has. By default, the preferred experience hours are shown in the tab. These are stilled at 36 months, 4500 hours, and 35 hours respectively. The candidate can fill and update his experience and note his area of experience after a systematic calculation is made by the PMI detector. The candidate can move forward after updating the project management work experience and education hours experience, after clicking the ‘Save and Continue’ tab. 

* In the third part, the details regarding the work experience are filled in. These are:

  1. The Title of the Project
  2. The Period (Start date and End date)
  3. Your Role in the Project
  4. Choose the Primary Industry

After completing, click on the ‘Save and Continue’ tab. 

Next, the candidate will be providing the exact details of the institution for whom he/she has managed the project. These are:

  • Job Title
  • Organization’s/Institution’s Name
  • Country
  • Organization address
  • City
  • State
  • Zipcode
  • Phone Number (this will include country code, phone number, state code, and extension)
  • After filling in all these details, the candidate can click on the ‘Save and Continue’ tab.  

Next, the information of the person who can be contacted in the organization needs to be filled in. This person can be anyone - Primary Stakeholder, Project Sponsor, Director/Manager, or Client. The right email id and phone number are also required.
When done, click on the ‘Save and Continue’ tab and move forward. 

Now, the candidate will have to specify and highlight the hours of experience needed to touch the eligibility requirement. After filling, you can click on the ‘Save and Continue’ tab.  

Moving forward, a quick brief summarization of the project that you handled needs to be supplied to the PMI. This needs to be written in 300 to 550 words in all. If you have a new project management experience, you can click on the link ‘Click here to add a new Project Management Work Experience.’

* The fourth part asks for adding in the project management education. For this, the candidate needs to click the ‘Add Education’ tab, document the project management education that he/she has acquired. After this, the following details will be needed:

  1. Course Title
  2. Name
  3. Course Start Date
  4. Course End Date
  5.  Hours
  6. Qualifying Hours

After rightfully entering the details, click the ‘Save & Add’ tab.

Step 4

Writing Your Name

This step is about writing your exact name in the form that you want to be printed on the PMP Certificate. 

After filling in the name, click on the ‘Save and Continue’ tab. 

This system will again ask for a confirmation of the Name. You can confirm and then again click on the ‘Save and Continue’ tab. 

Step 5

Here, the PMI® Certification Application Agreement will be shown on your screen. 

The candidate will have to click on the “I agree” box at the bottom. To move forward, click on the ‘Save and Continue’ tab. 

Step 6

At last, the candidate will be shown his summary of the application. The will be a general status of the application form. If the candidate leaves some information or the status shows as incomplete, then the applicant can click on the relevant tab displayed in the left menu and provide the PMI with complete details and information. The main part is the project management experience and education qualification mandated by PMI. This must be duly checked and entered with the right supervision. 

After reviewing the status, the candidate can click on the box against “All information that I have provided is accurate and complete. ” This is to state that you agree that all the credentials supplied are correct and up to date.

The candidate can click on the ‘Submit Application’ button to forward and submit the PMP online application form.
