Job Description

The Railway Recruitment Boards has officially announced a massive recruitment drive for the post of Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) under CEN No. 01/2026, offering 11,127 vacancies across various Railway Zones in India. This is a golden opportunity for candidates aspiring to build a stable and prestigious career in the Indian Railways with an initial pay of ₹19,900 under Level-2 of the 7th CPC pay matrix.

The online application process begins on 15 May 2026 and closes on 14 June 2026. Candidates aged between 18 and 30 years (as on 01 July 2026) can apply, with age relaxations available for SC/ST, OBC-NCL, Ex-Servicemen, railway employees, widowed/divorced women, and apprentices as per government norms.

Applicants must possess the required ITI, Diploma, or Engineering qualifications from recognized institutions before the closing date of application. Candidates awaiting final results are not eligible. The recruitment process is highly competitive and consists of CBT-1, CBT-2, Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), Document Verification, and Medical Examination. Notably, the ALP role demands strict A-1 medical standards, especially excellent eyesight without glasses or LASIK surgery.

The CBT exams will include Mathematics, Reasoning, General Science, and Basic Engineering concepts. Negative marking of one-third mark for wrong answers applies in CBT-1 and CBT-2, while CBAT carries no negative marking.

Candidates are allowed to apply to only one RRB, and multiple applications will lead to disqualification. Fee refunds are available for candidates appearing in CBT-1. Selected candidates will undergo training and may serve anywhere under their allotted Railway Zone.

Preparation Tips for the RRB Assistant Loco Pilot

Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must passed a Matriculation/ SSLC plus ITI from recognized institutions of NCVT/ SCVT in the trades of Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Millwright /Maintenance Mechanic, Mechanic (Radio & TV), Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Wireman, Tractor Mechanic, Armature & Coil Winder, Mechanic (Diesel), Heat Engine, Turner, Machinist, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Mechanic.
OR
Matriculation/ SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the trades mentioned above
OR
Matriculation/ SSLC plus three years Diploma in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Automobile Engineering
OR
Combination of various streams of these Engineering disciplines from a recognized Institution in lieu of ITI.

Age Limit: Candidates must have attained the minimum age of 18 years and must not have crossed the maximum age of 30 years as on 01-07-2026. However, relaxation in the upper age limit is applicable as per government directives.

Selection Process: Candidates will be selected based on two stages of written examinations, followed by document verification and a medical exam.

First Stage CBT I of 75 Marks
