The Ministry of Railways has officially released the long-awaited RRB Annual Recruitment Calendar 2026–27 through the Railway Board on 5 December 2025. This calendar outlines a structured roadmap for all major Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examinations scheduled throughout 2026, providing aspirants with a rare opportunity to plan their preparation in a focused and strategic manner.
For railway job seekers, this calendar is extremely valuable. It outlines the tentative timelines for vacancy assessment, notification drafting, and release of Centralised Employment Notifications (CENs) for various posts. Whether you are preparing for Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP), Technician, Junior Engineer (JE), NTPC, Level-1 (Group D), or Paramedical categories, knowing the expected schedule can significantly improve your preparation strategy.
In this article, we break down the complete RRB calendar quarter by quarter, explain the recruitment process, highlight nodal RRBs, and share practical preparation tips to help you make the most of 2026.
The calendar divides the year into four quarters, assigning specific categories to each. For every recruitment, the following stages are mentioned:
Vacancy Assessment Up To: The cut-off date until which vacancies (due to retirement, promotion, resignation, etc.) are calculated
Assessment in OIRMS: Entry of vacancies into the Online Indent & Recruitment Management System
Indenting After Approval: Final submission of approved vacancies
Draft CEN Proposal: Target month for preparing the draft notification (actual notification usually follows within 1–2 months)
Post: Assistant Loco Pilot
What this means for aspirants:
ALP is one of the most competitive railway exams, involving CBT-1, CBT-2, CBAT, and Document Verification. Since vacancy assessment has already begun, the notification is expected early in the year. Candidates targeting ALP should treat January to June 2026 as their most intensive preparation window, with special focus on Mathematics, Reasoning, Physics, General Science, and Basic Electronics.
Technician posts are especially popular among ITI and diploma holders, with selection mainly through CBT followed by medical and document verification. Section Controller is a smaller but prestigious operational post.
This quarter sees the maximum recruitment activity.
(Staff Nurse, Dietician, Physiotherapist, etc.)
(Station Master, Goods Guard, Senior Clerk, Commercial Apprentice, etc.)
(Junior Clerk, Accounts Clerk, Trains Clerk, Ticket Clerk, etc.)
NTPC remains the most popular railway exam due to high vacancy numbers and broad eligibility. The selection process includes CBT-1, CBT-2, skill tests (where applicable), and medical/DV.
(Stenographer, Junior Translator, Law Assistant, PGT/TGT Teachers, etc.)
(Track Maintainer, Helper, Pointsman, Gateman, Porter, etc.)
Level-1 recruitment usually attracts the highest number of applicants, often exceeding one crore, and includes CBT, PET, and medical/DV.
After years of delays due to policy changes, legal issues, and pandemic effects, the annual calendar reflects the Railway Board’s push for transparency and timely recruitment. With vacancies planned up to mid-2027, 2026 could be one of the biggest railway recruitment years in recent times.
