About the Organization and Advertisement

Ordnance Factory Tiruchirappalli (OFT), a unit of Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL), is a premier Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Defence. Certified with IS/ISO 9001:2015, 14001:2015, 45001:2018, 50001:2018, and WASH standards, and accredited by NABL, OFT plays a critical role in manufacturing advanced weapons and equipment. As part of its mission to support India’s defence capabilities, OFT invites online applications from energetic and skilled Indian citizens for various tradesman positions on a contractual basis for one year, with the possibility of extension based on factory requirements and individual performance.

The total number of vacancies are 73 for different trades. The following posts are available on a fixed-term contract:

3. Grinder: 8 vacancies
4. Machinist: 24 vacancies
5. Painter: 3 vacancies
6. Welder: 3 vacancies
7. Chemical Process Worker: 3 vacancies
8. Electroplater: 3 vacancies
9. Examiner: 8 vacancies
10. OMHE: 1 vacancy
11. Millwright: 2 vacancies
12. Electrician: 4 vacancies
13. Fitter (G): 1 vacancy
14. Fitter (Refrigeration): 1 vacancy
*PwBD Reservation for Machinist: 1 post each for Blindness and Low Vision, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and Locomotor Disability (including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims, and muscular dystrophy).

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualifications
1. For All Posts (except Welder, Examiner, Chemical Process Worker, OMHE):
  - Matriculation or equivalent from a recognized board.
  - National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) certificate (National Apprentice Certificate [NAC] or National Trade Certificate [NTC]) in the relevant trade, or ITI/equivalent Diploma/Certificate.
  - Equivalent trades:
    - Electronics and Electronics Mechanic can apply for Fitter (Electronics).
    - Maintenance Mechanic can apply for Millwright.
2. Welder:
  - 8th or 10th class from a recognized board.
  - NCVT Certificate in Welder trade or ITI/equivalent Diploma/Certificate.
3. Examiner:
  - Matriculation or equivalent.
  - NCVT Certificate in Fitter, Machinist, Turner, or Grinder trades, or ITI/equivalent Diploma/Certificate.
4. Chemical Process Worker:
  - Matriculation or equivalent.
  - NCVT Certificate in Attendant Operator (Chemical Plant) or ITI/equivalent Diploma/Certificate.
5. Operator Material Handling Equipment (OMHE):
  - Matriculation or equivalent.
  - NCVT Certificate in Crane Operations.
  - Valid Heavy Vehicles License and knowledge of operating cranes, forklifts, battery trucks, and heavy machinery (e.g., JCB).
Note: Degree or Diploma in Engineering is not accepted as a basic qualification.

Job Specifications
- Turner: Precision machining on CNC Turning/Turn Mill Centres, part programming (Siemens/Fanuc), and use of measuring instruments.
- Fitter (Electronics): Soldering/de-soldering on multi-layer PCBs, troubleshooting electronics assemblies, and maintenance of CNC/PLC machines.
- Grinder: Precision grinding on cylindrical/surface/special-purpose machines, wheel balancing, and use of measuring instruments.
- Machinist: Precision machining on CNC (HMC/VMC), part programming, and use of measuring instruments.
- Painter: Expertise in abrasive blasting, phosphating, spray gun painting, and powder coating.
- Welder: TIG/ARC/Spot welding, handling fitting tasks independently.
- Chemical Process Worker & Electroplater: Electroplating, chemical surface treatment, bath maintenance, and quality control.
- Examiner: Inspection of components, assemblies, and proofing/testing with measuring instruments.
- OMHE: Operating forklifts, cranes, battery trucks, and heavy machinery.
- Millwright & Fitter (General): Preventive and breakdown maintenance of conventional/CNC machines and mechanical equipment.
- Electrician: Maintenance of electrical equipment, substations, and switch gears.
- Fitter (Refrigeration): Maintenance of AC/chiller plants, refrigerators, and thermal chambers.
Upper Age Limit
- General Candidates: 18–35 years as of 29 September 2025.
- Age Relaxation:
  - SC/ST: 5 years (for reserved posts).
  - OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years (for reserved posts).
  - Ex-Serviceman: Period of military service + 3 years.
  - PwBD: Up to 10 years in their respective category, as per government directives.
Selection Process

The selection process for the Tradesman positions at Ordnance Factory Tiruchirappalli involves multiple stages to ensure merit-based recruitment. Candidates are evaluated based on their National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) marks (80% weightage) and performance in a Trade Test/Practical Test (20% weightage), which assesses job-specific skills. Failure in the Trade Test results in disqualification.

A merit list is prepared by combining NCVT and Trade Test scores, followed by document verification for shortlisted candidates, limited to the number of posts per discipline/category. Additional candidates may be called if initial candidates fail to meet eligibility criteria. Final selection requires police verification and a medical fitness test. Ties are resolved by prioritizing ex-trade apprentices of OFT, other Ordnance Factories, higher NCVT marks, or older candidates.

Pay Scale
- Consolidated Salary: ₹19,900 (Basic Pay) + Dearness Allowance (DA), approximately ₹30,845/- per month, subject to conditions.
- Calculation: Based on 1/30th of the pay for an 8-hour workday.
