Selection Process: The recruitment process for IOCL apprenticeships is explicitly merit-based and designed to streamline the engagement process.

    • No written test: A key feature across all notifications is the absence of a written examination. This singular focus on academic achievement simplifies logistics and places the onus on performance in the qualifying degree or trade course.
    • Selection Criterion: The merit-list is generated purely on the basis of the percentage of marks (aggregate of all subjects and semesters) obtained in the prescribed qualification, listed in descending order. A minimum threshold of 50% (45% for reserved candidates) must be met.
    • Tie-Breaker Mechanism: To ensure fairness when two or more candidates have the same percentage, a multi-tiered tie-breaking system is implemented:
      • The candidate senior by age (DOB) is ranked higher.
      • if the DOB is also identical, the candidate with a higher percentage of marks in the Matriculation (10th) exam is chosen.
    • Apprenticeship History: While the preference is for first-time apprentices, candidates applying for a second apprenticeship must submit a notarized Affidavit (Annexure-A) confirming that the second training is in a different discipline from the first and detailing the required gap between the two training periods.

    Document Verification

The Document Verification (DV) stage is a non-negotiable step designed to validate every claim made by shortlisted candidates. Failure to produce originals or valid proofs results in immediate disqualification. Essential documents include:

Shortlisted candidates must submit originals and self-attested copies of:

    • 10th certificate (DOB proof)
    • 12th/Diploma/ITI/Graduation marksheets & certificates
    • CGPA Conversion (A clear, official certificate from University/Board detailing the formula or conversion table used to translate CGPA/OGPA/Letter Grade into a percentage.

    • NATS/NAPS registration (Proof of successful registration on the appropriate apprenticeship portal—NAPS for Trade Apprentices and NATS for Technician Apprentices)
    • Skill Certificate (for Code 111)
    • Affidavit for second-time apprenticeship

    Pre-Engagement Medical Fitness

The medical check-up is a mandatory final hurdle, vital for ensuring the physical capacity and safety compliance of the workforce in a hazardous industrial environment.

    • Fitness Standards: Candidates must meet the minimum physical fitness standards/parameters as laid down under the Apprentices Act and prevailing company rules. These standards are stringent and specific to the demanding nature of refinery operations.
    • Disability Assessment: PwBD candidates are evaluated by a Medical Board in accordance with the specific provisions and guidelines set forth by the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
    • Engagement Condition: Only candidates who are declared medically FIT by the designated medical authority post-examination will be issued the final offer of engagement.
